AbstractThe present work was made at Tapajós National Forest ( Pará-Brazil), with the aim of validating the hypotheses that the ombrophile dense forest (from low lands and submontains) can show phenology variations perceptible from orbital data (multitemporal and multiseasonal TM/Landsat-5 images). In this context, the aim was to relate values derived of the fraction-components vegetation, soil and shadow (resultant from the Linear Spectral Mixture Model) and from NDVI, with precipitation values. Stages of geometric and radiometric rectification were initially realized. Seven thematic classes were defined with field work support and several correlations were established. A higher correlation coefficient (R = 0.94) was found for the average of the forest cover classes derived from the fraction-image vegetation versus precipitation, showing that the local vegetation responds to the climatic variation, possibly expressed through phenology. The NDVI practically did not show any correlation with the precipitation values, possibly due to a quick saturation in forest environment.
